Spearfish City Park Band Shell Project
Your friends at Spread the Tunes would like to cordially invite you to become a part of our music community. We are a Spearfish based 501c3 non-profit established in 2015 that has held numerous events to raise funds and awareness for local charities and other groups. We had a busy 2018 creating and hosting events for Northern Hills CASA, Western Hills Humane Society, The Artemis House, Spearfish Bike Co-op, Black Hills Trails-Spearfish Zone, two events for the Spearfish Food Pantry and our Canyon Acoustic Series which raised $10,000 for the DC Booth Fish Hatchery this year. We brought in national touring acts from all over the country as well as showcased some amazing local talent. In 2018, we also established a music scholarship for a Spearfish High School Senior which was awarded to Anne-Marie Rolando during the Acoustic Series. We have had tremendous support over the years and would like to keep the momentum going in 2019!
We set our biggest goal to date for the coming year to begin raising funds to replace the band shell in the Spearfish City Park. The current structure is deteriorating and has a variety of issues as well as not up to current building codes. The band shell was built in the 1960s and dedicated to local band director Charles McClung. We have reached out to the McClung family and have their blessing to move forward with the project and would also like to rededicate it to Mr. McClung.
We have been in discussions with the city and have taken the lead to start fundraising in the community to get this idea moving along. This is not a project in the current city budget so it’s going to take plenty of work. We will raise funds by hosting events throughout the year and also be visiting community members and businesses for their support. We are currently in the process of having a site plan and artist rendition created to provide a vision for the project.
